Running Around Yesterday with the Aging Delinquents

Somebody alert our bishops! Candy cigarettes and bubblegum cigars at the soda shop! No, one of the Brothers Nice is not flipping you off.

It was like being at Scarborough Faire, without having to unlace one’s bodice afterward. Fun, friends, and way too much food. We basically ate our way through one of the oldest neighborhoods in Dallas. [Brother Sushi, sadly, was home with the flu. Or as he put it, trying to keep the bed still.]

I promise; all our beer had the deepest of roots! And look! I found my missing marbles!

That was taken at the ice cream shoppe. And three hours later I was in Plano for dinner.

Yes, after much dithering I ended up driving to the dinner/gala in Plano, a suburb on the north side of Dallas. I drove something like 140 miles yesterday. It ended at 8:30 with no dancing, boo! hiss!, so we [usual suspects, above] all went to the dollar movie and saw “Enchantment”? “Enchanted”? The Disney movie that starts out as a cartoon and ends up in NYC. Great singing and some lovely visual spoofing of classic movies, including “Sound of Music”, and at the end the credits were reminiscent of Arthur Rackham’s illustrations. It is almost a crime that James Marsden should be so stereotypically good-looking *and* be able to sing.

One of my friends commented that her husband didn’t understand her need for having multiple projects going at once. I told her, “I understand your husband’s logic in terms of finishing projects. And it’s a typically male way of viewing things: Do A and then B and then C. And it doesn’t always work with how women are hard-wired. We are meant to keep an eye on many things at once: dinner bubbling on the stove, the toddler teasing the cat, the teenager on the phone with her new boyfriend. Plus, I think we creative types need more stimulation or inspiration than comes from doing A and then B and then C. I think the cross-pollination is a very healthy thing.”

I’m going to grab a bite of breakfast [something with little or no salt; I’m sure I got a month’s worth yesterday from the look of my ankles and toes] and see if I can finish the last repeat Middlest’s sock leg before heading off to church. That sock got a nice tour yesterday; I only wish that I’d done a Harlot-esque shot from the sock’s POV.

Yesterday was one of the best in recent history. [Even managed a 35 minute chat with Middlest and a shorter one with my best friend and two unproductive but still enjoyable trips to LYS’s.]

Sounds like you had a busy, fun-filled day. Sorry no dancing! I like your cross pollination theory.

I see you have writing in your profile. I have a six-word writing challenge on my blog, if you want to check it out!

Trips to LYS's are never unproductive. And 3 projects at at time are a necessary minimum - otherwise, I end up hanging out by the refrigerator.

Wow, I'm going to have to get my dictionary out!!

I really enjoyed talking with you. :)

Your adult playgroup looks respectable.

I used to do tons of projects at once but it's hard for me to keep up that way, so now I try to finish each item before I start a new one.
